    Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper, Jr., command pilot of the Gemini V spacecraft, is hoisted into a recovery helicopter after the craft’s eight-day mission. Astronaut Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr. was the pilot. Gemini V spacecraft was launched at 9:00 a.m., EST, August 21, 1965. Splashdown occurred at 7:56 a.m., EST, August 29, 1965.
